I usually have a dozen subs out, but I haven't sent anything out for the last two months, and now I'm down to four. Farthing and WOTF at three months, Weird Tales at four, and OSC's IGMS at six. But I shooed two pre-CW pieces back out the door this morning. Next up are rewrites on the CW stories and on a couple pre-CW pieces and then I'll be back up to speed. Or maybe, more than speed.
At Clarion West, I wrote 5 short stories and 2 flash pieces (the flash was from Paul's week) for a total of 31,100 words. The weirdo fear that I would suddenly be stricken with paralyzing block was unjustified. (Though I'm still really glad Paul had us ease in with those nightly exercises.) The average of the five 'long' stories is about 5900. This is my new natural length as of a year ago, and I'm really enjoying it.
More things I'm going to post about this week:
>Controlled Confusion
>Backstory/Infodumping/Not-Being-Borin g
>Sketching the Harbor
>Time Management, or, why The Oregonian is too damn big.
